William ?Rufus? Barker, age 74, of Laurel Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at Alleghany Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Marshall and Mary Belle Brown Barker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nelda Kay Parsons; a grandson, George Barker Jr.; and two brothers, J.D. Barker and Charles Dean Barker.
He is survived by his wife, Nedra Sturgill Barker; three sons and two daughters-in-law, George and Michelle Barker of Millers Creek, William Ray Barker and Jeff and Stacey Barker, all of Sparta; three grandchildren, Brandy Parsons, Latasha Barker and Gracie Barker; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Arthur and Brenda Barker of State Road and Wade Barker of Traphill; a special friend, Rosa Lee Moxley; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 10 at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Antioch cemetery in the Stratford Community near Sparta.
Lawton Henry Trivett, age 41, of Piney Creek, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at his home.
He is survived by his father, Willie C. Trivett Sr. of the home; his mother, Lucille Royal Trivett of Laurel Springs; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Fred Oliver of Dayton, Tenn. and Susan and Junior Simons of Piney Creek; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Willie C. Trivett Jr. and Elta Trivett of Piney Creek, Ricky and Donna Trivett of Sparta and Dean and Angela Trivett of Glade Valley; a special friend, Mildred Sluder of West Jefferson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 1 at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mount Zion cemetery in Piney Creek.

Rhondle Carlton Day, age 68, of Laurel Springs, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at his home. He was born March 24, 1941 in Ashe County to the late Herbert and Grace Jones Day. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Belle Day; and a brother, Russell Day.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Susan Day of West Jefferson; one brother, Herbert Day Jr. of West Jefferson; five sisters, Louise Hart of Laurel Springs, Shirley McMillian, Wanda Bare and Debbie Price, all of Jefferson and Margaret Marsh of Clemmons; one grandson, Jacob Flint Day of West Jefferson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 1 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Day cemetery. The Rev. Lloyd Day and the Rev. Tommy Dollar officiated.

Clarence Samuel Cox Sr., age 83, of Galax, Va. and formerly of Alleghany County, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax. He was born Jan. 4, 1926 in Alleghany County to the late Lester and Mettie Cox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, V

Ruby Beatrice Parks Pruitt, age 94, of Traphill, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009. She was born Dec. 12, 1914 in Wilkes County to Chye and Martha Ellen Handy Pruitt. She was a member of Roaring River Methodist Church and attended Traphill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband,
Eugene Parks; her second husband, Kermit Pruitt; a daughter, Julia Parks Norman; two brothers, Robert Pruitt and Lawrence Pruitt; and two sisters, Rosalie Banks and Zell Kearney.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Julius and Ginger Parks of Roaring River; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jack Sparks of Kernersville; two stepdaughters, Nancy King of Greensboro and Pat Harmeson of Sparta; a son-in-law, Roger Norman of Thurmond; five grandchildren, Curtis Sparks, Donna Parks, Roger Norman II, Ryan Norman and Rebecca King; three great-grandchildren, Robert Allen Sparks, Dylan Sparks and Jared Wood; and one great-great-grandchild, Noah Jacob Sparks.

Rebecca Eleanor Moxley McMillan, age 75, of Wilkesboro, died Thursday, Sept. 24 in North Wilkesboro. She was born on April 14, 1934 in Laurel Springs to the late Thomas Senter and Elizabeth Miller Moxley. She attended Laurel Springs Elementary School and graduated from Sparta High School. She was a
1955 graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Wendell Miller Moxley of Danville, Ohio and Charles Gwyn Moxley of Mountain Rest, S.C.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joe Clint McMillan of the home; four children and spouses, Joseph Lennie McMillan of Emerald Isle, Melanie M. and Kenneth Davis of Statesville, Joel Thomas and Jennifer McMillan of Sparta and Edwin Moxley McMillan of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Joshua Brant McMillan, Elizabeth Rebecca Davis, Savannah McMillan Davis, Matthew Caleb McMillan and Caroline Grace McMillan; and one sister, Sue Moxley Kocal of North Fort Myers, Fla.
A memorial service was conducted Sunday, Sept. 27 at Wilkesboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lewis Poag and the Rev. Chris Lakey officiating.

Laura Lee Smith Andrews, age 85, of Rockingham and formerly of Alleghany County, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at Rockingham Manor Nursing Center in Rockingham. She was the widow of Cleve Andrews.

Pauline Tompkins Moxley, age 88, of Ennice, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 at Waddell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Galax, Va. She was the daughter of the late Lem and Rena Tompkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Ray Moxley; a son, Jim R. Moxley; and four siblings, Marie Pope, Leonard Tompkins, Lynn Tompkins and Clarence Tompkins.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. and Mary K. Moxley of Brunswick, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara J. and Robert J.
